Gazprom: Oil leak at N Stream’s Trent 60 may cause fire, explosion

MOSCOW, Sep 6 (PRIME) -- Further exploitation of the oil-leaking Trent 60 unit of the Portovaya compressor station of the Nord Stream pipeline without repairs could have led to a fire or an explosion, Russian gas giant Gazprom said in a statement late on Monday.

On September 2, the company said that the Nord Stream pipeline would be unable to resume operations after a three-day maintenance suspension as the only unit that was still working, Trent 60, started leaking oil.

“Further exploitation of this gas pumping unit without elimination of the discovered defects creates risks of a fire or an explosion, which has an impact on industrial security of the entire station,” Gazprom said.

“A similar leak was previously discovered at the GPA 14, or Engine 120, unit, it progressed and had a more extensive nature. The presence of the defect in several units points to its consistency.”
